New Xbox 360

Microsoft has released (to retailers) a new version of the Xbox 360, to be on sale to the public soon. Although the new unit has the same price tag ($300) as the previous Xbox 360, its much smaller, quieter, and shinier!

Per Giz, some of the features in this new release include:

• Touch sensitive on/off and eject buttons (like the PS3)
• “Much quieter”
• 250GB internal hard drive, which is still swappable.
• A custom Kinect port (not a standard USB port—it’s a USB port that can feed more power)
• There are five USB ports now, with three in the back and two in the front
• AV cable included, an HDMI and optical audio
• Different power supply—it’s still big but nearly weightless
• External Xbox 360 hard drives and memory units are NOT compatible with the new Xbox
• Internal components that are changed: two small fans changed into one large fan for quieter operation, 45nm integrated CPU and GPU

Cub Scouts Video Game Badge

LOL, you gotta be kidding me. Apparently, the Cub Scouts figure if you cannot beat them, join them. They have just released the latest “belt loop”, not badge, for playing video games!

Too bad they didn’t have these when I was a kid, or I would have gotten my Eagle Scout! Here are the requirements:

Requirements

Tiger Cubs, Cub Scouts, and Webelos Scouts may complete requirements in a family, den, pack, school, or community environment. Tiger Cubs must work with their parents or adult partners. Parents and partners do not earn loops or pins.
Belt Loop

Complete these three requirements:

1. Explain why it is important to have a rating system for video games. Check your video games to be sure they are right for your age.
2. With an adult, create a schedule for you to do things that includes your chores, homework, and video gaming. Do your best to follow this schedule.
3. Learn to play a new video game that is approved by your parent, guardian, or teacher.

Academics Pin

Earn the Video Games belt loop and complete five of the following requirements:

1. With your parents, create a plan to buy a video game that is right for your age group.
2. Compare two game systems (for example, Microsoft Xbox, Sony PlayStation, Nintendo Wii, and so on). Explain some of the differences between the two. List good reasons to purchase or use a game system.
3. Play a video game with family members in a family tournament.
4. Teach an adult or a friend how to play a video game.
5. List at least five tips that would help someone who was learning how to play your favorite video game.
6. Play an appropriate video game with a friend for one hour.
7. Play a video game that will help you practice your math, spelling, or another skill that helps you in your schoolwork.
8. Choose a game you might like to purchase. Compare the price for this game at three different stores. Decide which store has the best deal. In your decision, be sure to consider things like the store return policy and manufacturer’s warranty.
9. With an adult’s supervision, install a gaming system.

DS Soon To Be Biggest-Selling Console

The Playstation 2 has held the crown for the most consoles sold for quite some time now. However, the DS is fast approaching and will soon surpass even PS2′s numbers.

Some are saying that the DS sales will overtake PS2′s by the end of the year.

“The NDS is approaching the PS2 as the best-selling hardware system of all time”, says The NPD Group’s Anita Frazier, “and by October or November of this year, it should meet or exceed the install base of the PS2.”

The DS units have sold 129 million units (as of March 31, 2010).

$1,000,000 For Playing A Video Game

To help market it’s new release of Major League Baseball 2K10, 2K Sports offered $1 million to the first person to pitch a perfect game. It was up to the contestant to record his progress to prove his accomplishment, and well, it happened within 24 hours of the games release!

A 24 year old Alabama man, Wade McGilberry, used Braves pitcher Kenshin Kawakami as his avatar to throw a perfect game less than 90 minutes after returning home from work.

Here’s the kicker though…although great news for Wade, it sucks to be 2K Sports right now. Their insurance company could not come up with the odds of throwing a perfect game, so no insurance was purchased. Hence, the $1 million will be coming out of their own pocket!

Black Wii Released May 9th

A new version of Nintendo’s Wii, the Black Wii, was revealed and will go on sale May 9.

The $200 price tag will include a black Wii console, TWO games (Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort), controller and nunchuk and a Will MotionPlus accessory. This $200 bundle will also be available to the white models as well.

Microsoft To Balance Nations Budget?

For those of you excited about the next “Halo” release, here’s something new to keep you juiced! The Obama administration has approached Microsoft in hopes of creating a video game that would have players balance the US budget!

Chances are there will be no headshots or sweet rides in this game, however, the Nation’s budget is a hot topic. Could this be a simple PR stunt so that Americans can appreciate the difficult task, or something deeper, which will allow the government insight on how to fix the budget?

1350 iPad Apps Leaked

PS3 Slams Wii From the Future
