For those of you who have been waiting for the iPhone to drop in price before you make the purchase, chances are this is about as low as it will ever get. Wal-Mart will be selling the latest iPhone at the low price of $97.00!
This is totally a flag thown up that guarentees Steve Jobs will announce the next gen iPhone next week at the Apple Developers Conference.
Anyone with bad timing that signed a contract with AT&T after June 1st is going to have one hell of a shock when it comes to their early termination fee. The new early termination fee has been raised from $175 to $325! Holy crap. AT&T’s ridiculous explanation:
The idea is, and we think that it’s fair approach, that if you spend less on a device, your early termination fee should be less. If you spend more, your early termination fee should be more.
Time to jump ship while the going is possible. If you decide to stick around, I hope you’re in for the long haul. To add insult the injury, they also have a new BS plan regarding ETF:
For customers who enter into new two-year service agreements in connection with the purchase of our more advanced, higher end devices, including netbooks and smartphones, the ETF will increase to $325, and be reduced by $10 for each month that you remain with us as a customer during the balance of your two-year service agreement. After that, the ETF will no longer apply.
Although I am currently using a Google Nexus One, an unlocked device, I am stuck in the grasp of AT&T for at least another year. Sucks to be me…and you after June!
I’m shocked that LifeLock is still staying afloat when the world knows that Todd Davis’s (CEO) identity has been stolen up to 13 times!
Since he began posted his social security number anywhere and everywhere (457-55-5462), Todd Davis has “failed to pay back a $500 loan”, “has piles of unpaid AT&T bills” and “racked up thousands in credit card debt”.
Aparently, the FTC knows what a scam LifeLock is as well since they have fined LifeLock $12 million. According to FTC Chairman Jon Leibowitz:
“the protection they provided left such a large hole…that you could drive that truck through it.”
Coming soon, Google plans to dump its online store as its only way to push the Nexus One phone. This comes as a shock as Google was hoping to change the way people purchase their mobile devices.
Per Google, it won’t be much longer until we see the change:
Nexus One changes in availability
5/14/2010 09:30:00 AM
We launched Nexus One in January with two goals in mind: to introduce a beacon of innovation among Android handsets, and to make it quick and easy for people to buy an Android phone. We’re very happy with the adoption of Android in general, and the innovation delivered through Nexus One. Already, a lot of the innovation that went into creating Nexus One has found its way into numerous Android handsets, like the HTC Evo 4G from Sprint and the Verizon Droid Incredible by HTC.
But, as with every innovation, some parts worked better than others. While the global adoption of the Android platform has exceeded our expectations, the web store has not. It’s remained a niche channel for early adopters, but it’s clear that many customers like a hands-on experience before buying a phone, and they also want a wide range of service plans to chose from.
So today we’re announcing the following changes:
More retail availability. As we make Nexus One available in more countries we’ll follow the same model we’ve adopted in Europe, where we’re working with partners to offer Nexus One to consumers through existing retail channels. We’ll shift to a similar model globally.
From retail to viewing. Once we have increased the availability of Nexus One devices in stores, we’ll stop selling handsets via the web store, and will instead use it as an online store window to showcase a variety of Android phones available globally.
Innovation requires constant iteration. We believe that the changes we’re announcing today will help get more phones to more people quicker, which is good for the entire Android ecosystem: users, partners and also Google.
LOL, this is pretty dumb. Due to the success of the Microsoft Windows 7 burger in Taiwan, they have decided to open a Windows 7 themed restaurant called Hot Fried 77:
The restaurant will go live for 2 months, which will serve a dish for $77 Taiwan ($3 American). Coming soon, the Mac Big Mac!
For those of you whom are familiar with the Android Market via your PC or Mac, you would know that it wasn’t all that well designed or organized. Although there have been some minor design updates, it still misses the mark a tad:
It’s still missing search and QR codes, but future releases show promise! Visit the updated market here.
The Playstation 2 has held the crown for the most consoles sold for quite some time now. However, the DS is fast approaching and will soon surpass even PS2′s numbers.
Some are saying that the DS sales will overtake PS2′s by the end of the year.
“The NDS is approaching the PS2 as the best-selling hardware system of all time”, says The NPD Group’s Anita Frazier, “and by October or November of this year, it should meet or exceed the install base of the PS2.”
The DS units have sold 129 million units (as of March 31, 2010).
To help market it’s new release of Major League Baseball 2K10, 2K Sports offered $1 million to the first person to pitch a perfect game. It was up to the contestant to record his progress to prove his accomplishment, and well, it happened within 24 hours of the games release!
A 24 year old Alabama man, Wade McGilberry, used Braves pitcher Kenshin Kawakami as his avatar to throw a perfect game less than 90 minutes after returning home from work.
Here’s the kicker though…although great news for Wade, it sucks to be 2K Sports right now. Their insurance company could not come up with the odds of throwing a perfect game, so no insurance was purchased. Hence, the $1 million will be coming out of their own pocket!
